I AM WOMAN

Biography of one of the most successful female singers of her time… Helen Reddy. Unfolds the story from rags to riches. Takes place in 1966, Helen Reddy (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) heads from Australia to New York, with her three-year-old daughter Traci (Scout Bowman), having won a recording contract, only to be reneged.

With very little money, she decides to stay in New York to pursue a singing career regardless, with that motto she remembered so well, when her father used to tell her, as a young girl that “the show must go on”.

During her stay, her friend Lilian Roxon (Danielle Macdonald), who also lived in New York and later became best friends, inspired Helen to sing something from the heart, inspirational and this is when “I Am Woman” song was created, expressing her growing passion for female empowerment and was in fact released during the second wave feminist movement (1960s – 1980s).

With the help of her husband Jeff Wald (Evan Peters) who worked as her manager, and knew contacts, people started to notice Helen Reddy. I Am Woman, was the first number one hit on the Billboard chart by an Australian-born artist and the first Australian-penned song to win a Grammy Award.

Just before the credits, film producers reveal what ever became of Helen Reddy, Jeff Wald and the legendary rock journalism Lilian Roxon “Mother of Rock”. A must watch, stellar performances by all.
