Travelodge ‘Flight Restaurant’. Hobart Airport Tourist Park

We stayed at the Hobart Airport Tourist Park, there are two restaurant options within walking distance, we had already dined at Tasmanian Gourmet Seafoods (food is very nice) and the other is at Travelodge ‘Flight Restaurant’, so we thought we would give this a go.

They are opened for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, we went there for dinner, open seven days from 5.30pm to 9pm and it is table service. We wasted no time and arrived there at 5.30pm without reservations – all good, the waitstaff greeted us and walked us to our table for two.

He returned with an icy cold bottle of water (which was really nice as it was a hot day) and glasses and then took our drink orders. In the meantime, we were given a menu, the price range is from $10 (starters) to $32 – midrange prices. For ‘Starters’, we ordered ‘Garlic Loaf’ @ $10 (a small loaf of garlic bread suitable for two).

We didn’t have to wait long for our garlic loaf – perhaps 15 minutes, presentation was appetising and the garlic loaf was ever so delicious that it just melted in your mouth. It was crispy on the outside but perfectly toasted, the butter amount was just right and the amount of garlic was perfect – we finished it in no time.

After having our garlic loaf, we just couldn’t wait for our mains to arrive. I ordered ‘Rump Steak 300gm’ cooked medium rare topped with mushroom and bacon gravy @ $26 (cooked to your liking with chips, salad and gravy or mushroom and bacon gravy). My wife ordered ‘Mediterranean Salad’ @ $15 (crisp cos lettuce, sundried tomatoes, marinated olives, onion and feta cheese with a drizzle of homemade salad dressing).

I’m not too sure how long it took to arrive, as we ordered our ‘Starters’ and ‘Mains’ at the same time – it didn’t feel like we waited long because we were preoccupied with our delicious garlic loaf and then our mains were served shortly after – perfect timing.

Presentations for both meals were impeccable! My rump steak was cooked perfectly that it simply melted in your mouth, juicy and tender and the mushroom and bacon gravy was a delicious topping that complimented the rump steak. The chips were café style – thick, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, I love when restaurants put a bit of effort into their chips.

The salad was fresh, flavoursome with a light, dressing but it was a nice tangy dressing – I don’t like salad without dressing, it’s too bland which I don’t end up eating. And I washed it down with a bottle of refreshing ‘Cascade Pale Ale’ – great finishing to my meal.

As for my wife, she enjoyed her salad. She said that the combination was perfect and delicious. She loved the crispness of the lettuce and the ingredients added to the lettuce were of the right amount, amazing, especially the feta, which was creamy and not too salty and the dressing was delicious.

Needless to say, we both ate every single bit of our meals. Well done chef and thank you. Our meals were flawless, delicious, very satisfying and at an affordable price for our gourmet meals and amazing service, which came to a total of $59.50.

Table service was great, when you have finished with your meal, the waitstaff wasted no time to take your empty plates away. When you are finished with your meals, you head to the counter and pay (both cash and cards are accepted).

Free Wi-Fi is available, but only if you are staying at the Travelodge. Overall, no regrets going to Flight Restaurant, amazing experience, exceptional meals, we have found the price to be fair, walking distance to / from our cabin and left on a full, happy stomach – what more can we ask for?

Highly recommend this place for 'fine dining' experience at affordable prices – have no clue about their breakfast or lunch, but I can imagine it would be of high standards after our dinner experience. Opening hours for Breakfast from 6.30am to 9.30am (Monday to Friday) and 7am to 10am (Saturday and Sunday). Lunch from 11am to 3pm (Monday to Sunday).
