Discovery Parks Devonport. A Park With A Sense Of Humour

The first thing I noticed when we arrived at Discovery Parks Devonport was the sense of humour Bryce has with his weather forecast, you will understand what I mean when you see the photo I have attached –ingenious! I may implement his idea at home.

There are no boomgates to access the site, staff will give you a map of the park and Wi-Fi password – Wi-Fi connection was very slow during the day but reasonably fast early in the morning – I’m guessing the reason behind the ‘slow connection’ is it’s during the summer school holidays but when most guests at the park were asleep, the Wi-Fi connection was considerably good.

The self-contained cabin was comfortable and well laid out and comes with a decent sized parking space beside the cabin (one car per cabin) and it’s dog friendly too. The beds come with clean linen and towels, with complimentary mini bathroom accessories (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion). A complimentary coffee and tea starter kit is provided (including 300ml milk in the fridge). They don’t have a park, equipped with swings, slippery dips, skate ramps etc but in place of that, they have this massive ‘Bouncing Pillow’ (like a trampoline but on a much larger scale).

The park has all your necessary amenities but what I have noticed on the map was that they also had a common ‘movie room’ to share with guests. We were only there for an overnight stay, so I didn’t get the chance to explore the place or use their amenities.

Although it was summer, I did find the area very cold, only a couple of minutes of walking distance would get you to the beach at Bass Strait and not too far from where ‘Spirit of Tasmania’ cruise ship arrives from Melbourne to Devonport. Definitely need a jacket in the mornings and evenings – during the day, it was fresh but comfortable weather.

The park is neat, clean and lots of ground space, I saw a couple of children play kickball. Not too far from town, about a 10-minute drive will get you in town, where we stopped by at Macca’s to have dinner.

There was only one downfall, my girls complained about how uncomfortable the mattress was in the bunk beds. It looked good but when I sat on it, that’s when you notice how thin the mattress is… you could actually feel the bed slates.

They didn’t have a good sleep but luckily it was only an overnight stay. Apart from that, the park was peaceful and not too far from Lillico Beach should you want to see the ‘fairy penguins’ come out at dusk.

We didn’t get the chance to do that but I thought it’s worth a mention should you be staying at Discovery Parks Devonport for a few days.
